Vaughan Constructions has been awarded Excellence in Construction of Industrial Buildings – Over $5 million for the Woolworths Heathwood Chilled & Frozen Distribution Centre (HCFDC) at the 2022 Brisbane Master Builders Association awards.
Friday 15 July at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre the team proudly accepted the highest accolade in the industrial category.
The award-winning HCFDC was built by Vaughan Constructions on behalf of Woolworths Group and LOGOS Group.
The 42,000m² temperature-controlled, semi-automated distribution centre is 22-meters-high and comprises 33,460m² of warehousing, freezer, chiller and staging area, 2,796m² of office space and a 60-meter-long 179m² airbridge that connects to the neighbouring Hilton Meats facility.
The facility also houses an MHE workshop, 250 bay forklift charging room, four blast freezers, a 2,842m² returns facility as well as a pedestrian bridge, multi-deck carpark and extensive hardstand and landscaped areas.
HCFDC enables fresher, faster and more efficient deliveries of frozen and long-life chilled products to around 280 stores across Queensland and northern New South Wales.
The HCFDC is targeting a 5 Star Green Star certification for sustainability, which, if successful, will be Woolworths Group’s first 5 Green Star certified Distribution Centre in Queensland.
A few key sustainability initiatives include a huge 2.5MW solar panel system on the roof - over 4,000 solar panels, charge points for electric trucks and an underground onsite stormwater system with a detention capacity of 3.12 million litres.
Scantec Refrigeration Technologies also provided an ammonia refrigeration system with zero ozone depletion potential which has zero global warming potential.
In addition, with the co-location and connection via an automated air bridge to Woolworths’ meat supplier Hilton Foods Australia, approximately 390 truck movements will be removed from Brisbane roads each week by consolidating delivery loads to stores.
Our team is incredibly proud of this project, and it was a pleasure to deliver it alongside our project partners: Woolworths Group, LOGOS Group, Primary Connect, PDS Group, Watson Young Architects as well as our valued subcontractors and suppliers. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the delivery of this award-winning project!
