It is with great pleasure that Vaughan Constructions announce that our Woolworths Meat Company Facility, Truganina has been awarded the Winner in Excellence in Construction of Industrial Buildings at the 2016 Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards.
The temperature controlled meat production and distribution facility was the first of its kind for Woolworths in Australia and will be the reference point to similar facilities planned across the country. The partnership between Woolworths and Europe based Hilton Food Group has resulted in the primary meat and distribution facility for Victoria.
The purpose of the building was to automate the preparation of retail ready meat for the grocery giant, therefore minimising “in-store”preparation and packaging.
The buildings structure consists of pad footings, fibre slabs and steel framing. The external finishes include PIR coloured insulated pabel and metal deck roofing. As the plant is a meat processing facility, the driving factor for selection and detailing of internal finishes involves hygiene and cleanliness.
As the tender process resulted in the design being 20% over budget, Woolworths approached Vaughan Constructions to undertake a details Value Management Process, in order to identify possible scope saving initiatives. The Value Management Process was undertaken by Vaughan Constructions over a one month period, and identified savings of 18% of project cost were incorporated by Vaughan Constructions into the redesigned project documentation for construction. Importantly, the identified savings did not delete any building area and all operational temperatures and food manufacturing requirements were maintained.
This award is not only the well deserved distinction for the effort and performance of the entire project team responsible for delivery, but it is also an important recognition by the industry of the depth of skills, experience and capabilities prevalent within Vaughan Constructions national team.
